~~~ Horses Headstart ~~~
I am now offer my services for Home/Barn Nursing Assistance.
This would be for veterinarian-ordered aftercare,
such as changing bandages, wrapping strained legs, administering eye or oral medications. I would need to receive
the instructions either in writing or by phone from the veterinarian, for legal reasons.
Barn nursing visit: $15 visit + mileage
I also offer Farm Safety Inspections
"A stitch in time saves nine", or so they say, and I'm a believer!
I have a very keen eye for spotting circumstances under which harm and injury to your horses can occur. Having treated
injuries, supervised the safer management of her employers' farms and horses and overseen the recovery of injured animals,
I can offer you the sound advice you need to hear!
(This is NOT a structural engineering inspection)
Safety Inspection: $50 + mileage
For anything not already covered, I am available for general consultation
on issues of horse management and ground-training at the rate of $25/hour
~ Training Principles ~
One of the reasons it is good to start your training early is this: the colt who has been asked to respond
to human cues from an early age actually learns how to 'think' instead of simply reacting instinctively.
It is better to teach the foal nothing at all than to teach it bad behavior. Every time you are with your horse,
you are teaching or reinforcing either good behavior or bad behavior. Horses learn with
extraordinary speed. They do not forget what they have learned, although they may learn to override past
lessons in the face of new teachings. If your horse does something twice that you do not want to become a habit,
you must make absolutely certain that he won't do it a third time. If you don’t know how to do that, you need to call me!
